Draft announcement: Forming a study & advocacy group at St. Andrew's

Study & Action Group
In light of several of the vision priorities established by the vestry and affirmed at the annual meeting in January, some parishioners are thinking of forming a study and action group to inspire us to respond in new ways.  The specific vision priorities we seek to respond to have a common outward and public focus:
  • Empower parishioners to move out into their communities to learn about and respond to the needs of others.
  • Cooperate with other churches and community groups as we work together to create a caring community.
  • Continue our outreach to the wider world.
Part of the inspiration comes from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s call to “reclaim Jesus.” We would use the resources available on the www.reclaimingjesus.org  website to guide our reflections, and the resources of the Episcopal Public Policy Network to guide our actions.  We also would draw on the joint effort of the Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) called “For Such a Time,” which is a call for prayer, fasting, and action on behalf of the poor.  If you are interested in learning more or being part of such a group, contact Laurie Gray at langdongray@hotmail.com or sign up on the clipboard in the Atrium.

Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?  I will with God’s help.
Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?  I will with God’s help.
